Police rescue stolen four-day-old baby in Abia, apprehend suspects

Abia State Police Command says it has arrested 4 persons implicit alleged conspiracy, kid stealing and trafficking.

The Police Command besides said it rescued a four-day-old babe and the baby’s mentally unstable mother.

A property merchandise by the Police Command on Monday gave the names of the arrested suspects arsenic Gladys Nathaniel, Victor Udochukwu, Chijioke Obunwa and Onyeonoro Chinwe.

The property release, which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said officers of the Violent Crimes Response Unit, VCRU, Rapid Response Unit, RRU, Obehie, arrested the suspects connected September 16, 2026, for conspiracy, kid stealing and trafficking.

She said the suspects allegedly conspired to bargain the four-day-old babe from her mentally unstable parent and subsequently sold the babe to different person, adding that the suspects were apprehended pursuing a diligent probe by the Police.

“The babe and parent were rescued. The parent has been released to her household for due attraction and aesculapian attention, portion the babe has been handed implicit to the Ministry of Women Affairs for protective custody,” the Police spokesperson said.
